This memorial was built in honor of the members of the 101st Airborne Division who died in the Gander crash. The children are each holding olive branches, representing the peacekeeping mission in the Sinai that the 101st Airborne Division was returning from when the crash occurred.

Notice the empty area in the background of the top photo -- this was created by the crashing Arrow Air DC-8 as it came over the hill toward Gander Lake.
